Breath of Fire for Spring Clean!

Spring is here!! Spring ushers in energy of rebirth, beauty and light. Spring is not only outside in our environment but also within us. What are you rebirthing? What do you need to releases in order to blossom? Breathwork is my favorite healing tool for doing just that, bringing in new energy means composting what is not useful for us. How do we thrive within our being and not hold on to what might be dragging us down. Breathwork is the art of controlling your breath in order to help heal the body, mind and spirit from dis-ease. It is all about becoming consciously aware of your breath and connecting with how your breath lives in your body and practicing different breath modalities in order to bring forth homeostasis . For Spring we will focus on Breath of Fire. Breath of Fire is one breath modality that is specifically great during the spring season because it is the ultimate detoxifying breath. What better way to rebirth and create lightness within the body then to detoxify it. Breath of Fire is your bodies Spring cleaning. We do Spring cleaning in our homes to start fresh and clear the clutter from the winter hibernation. We also need to do this for our bodies. Breath of Fire is also activating to the solar plexus chakra (located right above the navel) which is the house of personal power. With this spring energy coming out of the winter rest we want to activate our power, "plant our seeds of power" so to speak so that we can see it blossom and THRIVE this summer. Activating your personal power with the Breath of Fire will activate you in your work allowing you to see the work that needs to be done with a clearer mind . So before you breath make sure you say your intention of what personal power you want to increase. Happy Spring Cleaning!!!

  • Breath of Fire is a rhythmic breath. There is inhale and the exhale, with no pause between them. We will work on the breath of fire with just our nose keeping the mouth closed

  • When we exhale, the air is expelled powerfully through the nose, by pressing the navel point and solar plexus back toward the spine at the same time. It will happen automatically if you contract the diaphragm rapidly.

  • The inhale is very relaxed in this breath, there is almost no effort in the inhale. Let it be automatic don’t focus too much on the inhale and trust the body to know what to do in order to take in the right amount of air needed to have the powerful exhale.

  • The chest and rest of the body is relaxed through this breath, it is only the navel point that is doing most of the work with the nose.

  • Begin practicing Breath of Fire for I-3 minutes daily. Listen to your body and build up the time spent of this breath with what your body is saying. Some say they feel dizzy after 10 seconds, then stop. The dizziness come from your body not being use to releasing and receiving this much oxygen at once. Tingling, light-headedness are completely normal as your body adjusts to the new breath and new stimulation of the nerves. Sometimes these symptoms are from the toxins/chemicals released by doing this deep detoxification breath. Drink lots of water after this breath not too much before.
